The Wings East site in Kirklington consists of numerous Grade 2 existing buildings and features set within mature landscaped grounds totalling approximately 18 acres.
Due to a complex and time consuming planning process on the residential school and to assist in preparing accurate plans and specifications for the main scheme it was necessary to carry out an enabling package on the Wings East project.
The enabling works consisted of the following main items of work:
- Extensive tree felling and cutting back in line with the tree report
- External demolition of redundant buildings
- Scaffolding of the main hall with a complete temporary roof to the 2 storey element
- Forming temporary haul roads around site
- Tree protection works and formation of a temporary vehicle passing bay to the main estate road
- Timber treatment and DPC injection to existing buildings
- Removal of gloss paint and wallpaper to hall ceilings and walls
- Hall structural internal alterations and supports
- Removal of modern roof and steelwork to existing hall courtyard
- Lifting of floorboards to determine Mechanical & Electrical routes for the main scheme
The above works proved essential in providing an accurate set of design drawings for the main scheme along with providing the project with a suitable position to commence the main scheme at speed following receipt of the necessary planning / 106 and listed building consents.
